Install SimpleRisk Virtual Appliance (VMWare)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for importing the SimpleRisk VMWare appliance. It is designed for users who have VM Workstation Player already installed. The instructions are based on VM Workstation Player 17, but they should be similar across different versions. If you encounter any difficulties, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at support@simplerisk.com.

Instruction

  1. After you have downloaded the SimpleRisk VMWare appliance from https://www.simplerisk.com/download, please extract the contents of the downloaded zip file to a location of your choice where you would like to store the virtual machine (VM).

  2. Launch VMware Workstation Player and click on “Player” in the top left corner. Then, select “File” and click “Open.” Navigate to the OVF file for SimpleRisk and select it to open. In this example, I will be using “simplerisk-20250828-001.ovf.”

  3. You can now assign a name to your Virtual Machine and choose the location for its storage. After making any necessary adjustments, simply click “Import” to proceed.
  4. Double-click on the new Virtual Machine created for SimpleRisk, located on the left side of the Workstation Player window. After the machine has booted up, you will need to log in using the following credentials:
    Login: simplerisk
    Password: simplerisk
  5. With the server now operational, use the command “ip addr show” to find the IP address. Refer to the screenshot below for guidance on identifying the correct IP address, as it will likely differ from the example provided.

  6. To access your SimpleRisk installation, open a web browser on the host system or any device connected to the same local network. Enter the IP address of your SimpleRisk server in the browser's address bar and press Enter. You should be directed to the login screen for your new SimpleRisk setup. Below are the default login credentials you will need:
    Login: admin
    Password: admin
