Does SimpleRisk support any database other than MySQL?
Over the years, SimpleRisk has tried to support databases other than MySQL. Most recently, we dedicated a significant amount of our resources and efforts to working with and attempting to support MariaDB, as it was marketed as a direct 1:1 replacement for MySQL. We were hopeful that this transition would provide our users with additional options without compromising functionality. However, after extensive testing and development, we discovered that this was not the case.
The discrepancies between MariaDB and MySQL became apparent as we delved deeper into the integration process. Supporting MariaDB necessitated the implementation of special accommodations for various aspects of the system, including modifications to table structures and adjustments to command line arguments. These adjustments were not trivial and introduced complexities that could potentially lead to issues in performance and reliability.
Due to these challenges, we made the strategic decision to concentrate our development efforts exclusively on the MySQL server and client. This focus will allow us to ensure the highest level of support, performance, and security for our users. Consequently, we will not support SimpleRisk instances running any other database, including MariaDB. We believe that this decision will ultimately serve our users better, providing them with a more stable and efficient experience while using SimpleRisk.
